A message from ABA

21 Feb 2023 by Elizabeth Sayers

We have now finalised our new tech foul policy for this upcoming season.

An email will be sent to any club that has a member receive a technical foul informing them of the incident. The ABA will keep a record of all technical fouls and will manage the demerit points ongoing. These will reset each season.

It will be the responsibility of each club to liaise with the member who received the technical foul. Any further action from the club level can be handled by the clubs themselves.

We are investing heavily in our current and upcoming referee base and we hope this will help in our efforts to retain and develop our referees long term.

Alongside the implementation of this policy we have employed Mark Bywater as our Referee Development Officer.

Mark will be working closely with our referees to ensure they are developing and enjoying refereeing. From next week onwards we will be asking our referees to take up a zero tolerance stance towards any poor behaviour from players and coaches. We are aware that this may lead to some situations where someone feels they have been unfairly penalised for something that may have been acceptable in the past, Please understand that our referees are wanting to improve and develop and we must respect that this process is a learning one for them as much as it is our players and coaches, and as such any negative behaviour towards these tech fouls calls will be taken seriously by the ABA and will be treated as such.
